Making Pottery
Home Gallery and Store Making Pottery About the Potters

The Raku process came originally from Japan. The process has been modified by adding a heavy reduction following the rapid firing to increase the range and density of color. Raku is essentially a non-functional type of pottery. Shown here are the steps in our Raku process:

Creation

Bisque firing

Glazing

Sawdust for reduction

Pottery on Raku kiln shelf

Propane heating kiln

Kiln cover off 1800 degrees

To the sawdust chamber

Out of the reduction chamber

Removiong surface carbon

Voila !! -- A Raku dish
